Oak Island Treasure. Family Musical Play. Outline

 

Oak Island Treasure is an entertaining, educational and humorous musical play, written and composed by Vladimir Sitnikov and Cheryl Edgett. It is inspired by the mysterious story of Oak Island, Nova Scotia.

 

The Story

 

Modern day teenagers Daniel and Peggy found an ancient manuscript while working on a school project. After solving and reading it, they are taken back to year 1795, on Oak Island, Nova Scotia. They meet there 3 characters from the past: scientist Aldwyn, French Royal lady Florentine and Pirate. After learning some information from them, Daniel and Peggy started they treasure search, for which they have only 3 days. They came close but it wasn't enough to find a treasure. Instead they found another kind of treasure: each other's love.

They play is full of humour (mostly provided by Pirate), grotesque, scientific facts and Nova Scotia and world's history.

 

Cast of Characters:

 

1 Daniel. Modern day teenager, 17 year old, kind and positive.

2 Peggy. Modern day teenager, 17 year old, kind and positive.

3 Aldwyn. Mysterious and whimsical scientist from 18th century.

4 Pirate. Comical character. From 18th century.

5 Florentine. French Royalty gentle lady from 18th century.

 

 

Scene 1. Aldwyn's song, Whale of a Tale. Celtic Rock. Introduction of the story.

 

Scene 2. Modern days. Daniel and Peggy meet after school, discuss working together on a science school project.

Daniel's song, Adventure Together. Medium beat pop / funk.

 

Scene 3. Daniel and Peggy get together to study, discover an ancient foreign language manuscript at Daniel's house attic. After solving and reading it, they are taken into year 1795, on Oak Island.

Pirate comes on stage. Pirate's song. Upbeat Celtic.

 

Scene 4. Daniel and Peggy understand they are in year 1795 on Oak Island. They are thrilled and excited.

Peggy's song, Beautiful Nova Scotia. Folk / rock ballad.

 

Scene 5. French Royal lady, Florentine meets Daniel and Peggy. She tells her story, some history about French Royalty, Acadia and leaving France with the treasure.

Florentine's song, Deep in the Water, partially in French. Upbeat rock.

 

Scene 6. Pirate is coming back, talks to Florentine. This is a humorous scene. They flirt and argue who's treasure is better, more expensive, better hidden, etc.

Florentine's and Pirate's song and dance, Out of Your Mind. Upbeat Celtic.

 

Scene 7. Daniel and Peggy talk about Oak Island treasure and ocean tunnels that guard the treasure. Who made the tunnels, how was it possible?

Comes Aldwyn, tells them his story and more about science, tunnels, secrets. Then he reads Shakespeare, Peggy and Daniel join him.

Aldwyn's song, Believe. Upbeat funk / rock.

 

Scene 8. Daniel and Peggy are making a plan to stay on Oak Island and find a treasure. Daniel's and Peggy's song, Wonders. Folk / rock ballad.

 

Scene 9. Aldwyn's song Who Can Say. Celtic Rock.

 

Scene 10. Aldwyn, Pirate and Florentine discussing if they should give the treasure and the secrets to Daniel and Peggy, but decided not to. Aldwyn tells the story how everything should happen when the time is right, using the example of classical music piece Canon in D.

Aldwyn's, Pirate's and Florentine's song Summer Dreaming (Canon in D). Upbeat folk / rock based on a classical piece.

 

Scene 11. Daniel and Peggy realize they can't find the treasure yet, although so close. They make a plan to come back in the future. They are falling in love.

Daniel's and Peggy's song, One Thing I Know. Pop / rock ballad.

 

Scene 12. Aldwyn, Pirate and Florentine saying good by to Daniel and Peggy. Giving them gifts: a diamond ring and a painting by Rembrandt. Some humour by Pirate and philosophy by Aldwyn.

Everyone sings final song, Oak Island Treasure. Upbeat pop / rock.
